Description: Saign Charlestein is an artist who has worked in the film and entertainment industry making armor, knives and swords since 2002. Saign uses timeless metalsmithing skills to produce the finest quality armor in a variety of different metals including aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, steel, and silver. He uses age old techniques such as raising, planishing, chasing and repousse, and engraving. Saign has designed items for The Chronicles of Riddick, True Blood, Star Wars, Everquest, and Heroes among many other well known movies, TV shows, and video games.
This piece is called "Mordred Helm" and is the very first helmet Saign ever created! Saign forged and fabricated this from brass. He was inspired by the helmet of Mordred, the son of King Arthur, in the 1981 film Excalibur. That original helmet was created by Terry English and has been a lasting vision in many people's minds as one of the movie's more memorable images. It adorned the movie posters at that time, and Saign has made an amazing rendition of it.
Numerous intricate locks of hair are hand sculpted right out of brass. The sheer amount of time and technique necessary to accomplish this can only be guessed at. The helm measures approximately 10 inches in height and 10-1/2 inches across. A wooden stand specifically made for this helm is included.
