Description: Since receiving his Journeyman Smith certification in 2002, Mike McClure's main focus has been on forging one of a kind pieces of his own design. His Mammoth Bone Boot Knife is a knife that will immediately grab attention.
The 3-1/4 inch long, slender blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge. The steel is 154CM, well known for its superior edge retention as well as its resistance to rust. It is meticulously mirror polished. Both the blade and full tang are distal tapered for optimal balance.
The bolsters are formed from 416 stainless steel and are adorned with beautiful Celtic knot work engraving done by hand by Jim Sorenberger. The bolsters are neatly dovetailed to ancient mammoth bone scales. The mammoth has a consistent dark coloration with subtle flecks of dark olive and brown. Red fiber spacers assist the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. The scales are smoothly beveled on the edges and are set with two 416 stainless bolts and lanyard hole. The knife is accompanied by a hand crafted leather sheath with an elephant hide overlay.
A classy, comfortable little knife -- a perfect sgain dubh. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
