Description: Canadian bladesmith Mark Banfield specializes in hand forged, one-of-a-kind knives. He tests each blade before finishing it, and every knife is tested again before being offered for sale. His work has a unique aesthetic that combines elegant lines with his dramatic carved handles.
The blade was forged from 1095 carbon steel and heat treated using a traditional Japanese technique whereby the spine is coated in clay, resulting in a soft, supportive spine with an ultra-hard edge. The gently undulating heat treatment line is called a hamon. A 400 grit hand satin finish lends tremendous refinement. The blade configuration is a talon shape, which uniquely makes it a superior knife for many different applications. Designed to be especially useful for draw cuts and in the reverse grip, the talon shaped blade is an absolutely ferocious cutter. It excels in cutting rope, line, and webbing.
The handle was made from African blackwood, and has been carved for a perfect feel in the hand. A series of textured diamonds assist with a secure grip and are visually elegant. Scales are set with three copper pins. The knife is accompanied by a hand tooled leather sheath.
Exceptional work throughout!
