Description: Canadian bladesmith Mark Banfield specializes in hand forged, one-of-a-kind knives. He tests each blade before finishing it, and every knife is tested again before being offered for sale.
The blade was forged from 1095 carbon steel and heat treated using a traditional Japanese technique whereby the spine is coated in clay, resulting in a soft, supportive spine with an ultra-hard edge. This creates a gently undulating heat treatment line called a hamon. The blade was then tempered twice. A 1500 grit hand satin finish lends tremendous refinement.
The mild steel elongated oval guard was meticulously carved, textured, and heat blued. The end cap has similarly been carved, blued, and textured. Polished brass spacers separate the guard from the carved juniper burl handle. The wood been formed in a leaf vein motif that is elegant to look at and feels exceptional!
The knife is accompanied by a hand tooled 10 oz. leather sheath with a removable frog strap, in a traditional Southern Bowie style. Exceptional work throughout!
