Description: Mastersmith Daniel Winkler and Karen Shook work together to create knives that have a timeless beauty that will quickly become family heirlooms. Their names are well known in re-enactment circles throughout the world and movie buffs may recognize their work in films such as Last of the Mohicans. Their knives have an authenticity rarely found in other maker's work.
This handmade piece was created between 1998 and 2002. The rustic feel of the knife is evidenced in the early American look of the knife and the sheath. The handle is formed from deer bone, and is rounded and smoothed for a comfortable grip. The mild steel end cap and guard are both antiqued.
The blade is damascus steel hand forged from carbon steels. The spine has been fileworked for a secure thumb purchase. A distal tapered blade results in a perfect balance.
The knife is accompanied by a neck sheath by Karen Shook. The rawhide sheath sports leather tassels decorated with damascus, bone and glass trade beads accenting the fringe.
