Description: Bob Lay's designs are well thought out and show an amazing degree of craftsmanship.
Premium bocote wood is handsomely offset by a jet black buffalo spacer. The wood's figure is very attractive and has a nice mix of warm brown and dark brown tones. The stainless steel guard and butt cap create a perfect balance in the hand. Alternating red fiber and stainless spacers assist the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes.
By mirror polishing the flats of the blade and satin finishing the grinds, Bob created a knife with grind lines that are very dramatic. This blade is made from 19C27 stainless steel. The steel, which is in the same family as 12C27, is tremendously wear-resistant and takes on an incredibly keen, long lasting edge. It was originally developed for cutting cardboard in industrial settings. It is one of those rare steels that has exceptional edge holding and can be easily stropped from sort-of dull to scary sharp. The blade has been heat treated to 59 Rc for optimal edge retention. The knife is accompanied by a tooled leather sheath, cordura storage pouch, and certificate from the maker.
Excellent fit and finish throughout.
