Description: Raymond Richard's Dog Bone Bowie with Koa has an elegance and timeless sense to it that wouldn't be out of place by the side of an American pioneer, bravely breaking ground in a new land. It captures the spirit of a time gone by - yet has the excellence one expects from a contemporary knifemaker.
The 9-3/4 inch blade has a slightly upswept spine. An appleseed grind ensures a very strong cutting edge. The carbon steel blade was heat treated using a differential clay zone heat treatment. The differential heat treatment line, called a hamon, is quite elegant and travels near the center of the blade.
The guard, ferrule, pommel and end cap were hand forged from antiqued wrought iron recovered from an 1850s era wagon wheel. The distressed wrought iron has a nearly damascene pattern. The handle is formed from presentation grade curly koa wood from Hawaii. The repetitive curl is tight and elegant. The handle is very comfortable and secure in the hand.
The knife is accompanied by a hand stitched pouch style leather sheath.
Excellent fit and finish throughout with a great balance.
