Description: Mastersmith Harvey Dean has been handcrafting knives since 1981 and began hand forging blades in 1986. As a member of the American Bladesmith Society he received his Mastersmith rating in 1992. Harvey Dean strives to use the best quality materials in every knife he makes. He prefers to use natural materials for handles, such as hardwoods, antler, pearl, and fossil ivory.
Harvey Dean's work shines in this Damascus Hideout. In fact, this is a similar version of the hunter that Harvey actually carries and is a well designed full-function clip point hunter/skinner.
The blade was forged to shape from Harvey's own damascus. It is a pattern that he calls West Texas Wild pattern and incorporates 1075 and 15N20 carbon steels. The blade joins seamlessly to the 416 stainless steel guard.
The mortised tang handle is amber stag and is set with pins for an heirloom appearance. The pins are carved to match the natural texture of the stag. The handle has a narrow waist and the flair toward the rear assists in a positive retention.
The Damascus Hideout is accompanied by a very nice hand stitched and tooled leather sheath. Excellent fit and finish throughout from one of the great American makers!
