Description: Desperado has an elegance and timeless sense to it that wouldn't be out of place by the side of an American pioneer, bravely breaking ground in a new land. It captures the spirit of a time gone by - yet has the excellence one expects from a contemporary knifemaker.
The 9 inch blade has a graceful false edge that moves along the spine. This pulls the weight out of the blade and creates an aggressive tip. An appleseed grind ensures a very strong cutting edge.
The guard, ferrule and end cap were hand forged from antiqued wrought iron recovered from an 1850s era wagon wheel. The distressed wrought iron has a nearly damascene pattern. The handle is formed from osage orange wood. This American hardwood is extremely hard, dense, and durable. The handle is very comfortable and secure in the hand.
The knife is accompanied by a hand stitched rawhide sheath by John Cohea. John, who is a knifemaker in his own right, is well known for his frontier style work. This sheath is an exceptional complement to Ray's knife.
Excellent fit and finish throughout with a great balance.
