Description: Raymond Richard's knives have an enduring grace about them that comes from a family heritage of knifemaking and a desire to create pieces completely unique unto themselves. Ray's Hamon S-Guard Bowie with Ironwood has a sense of timelessness and will be passed on through generations.
Ray forged the blade to shape from W2 carbon steel. It features a hand rubbed satin finish and a razor sharp edge. It was heat treated using a traditional Japanese technique. The spine was coated with clay prior to quenching, which results in a softer, supportive spine. The undulating heat treatment line is called a gunome hamon in Japan.
The S-guard, spacer and end cap are forged from recovered wrought iron. Ray has textured and antiqued the furniture to accentuate its timeless appearance.
The handle is shaped from presentation grade Arizona desert ironwood. It fills the hand comfortably with a swell toward the pommel that will ensure a steadfast grip. The knife is accompanied by a custom sheath wet formed from two-ply cowhide.
Quite a spectacular piece from bladesmith Ray Richards -- excellent fit and finish throughout.
