Description: Saign Charlestein is an artist who has worked in the film and entertainment industry making armor, knives and swords since 2002. Saign uses timeless metalsmithing skills to produce the finest quality armor in a variety of different metals including aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, steel, and silver. He uses age old techniques such as raising, planishing, chasing and repousse, and engraving. Saign has designed items for The Chronicles of Riddick, True Blood, Star Wars, Everquest, and Heroes among many other well known movies, TV shows, and video games.
This piece is called "Corinthian Helm". The Corinthian helm originated in ancient Greece and took its name from the city-state of Corinth. This helm was depicted on more sculpture than any other helm; it seems the Greeks romantically associated it with glory and the past. The Romans also revered it, from copies of Greek originals to sculptures of their own. A version of the Corinthian helm is habitually worn by the Marvel Comics super villain Magneto. The Star Wars character, Boba Fett, also wears a helmet with a T-shaped visor that draws imagery from the Corinthian helmet.
This recreation of the Corinthian Helm is based on a 6th century BC example and is made from hand-raised copper. Saign created this from a single 17 inch disk of copper through much stretching and shaping! He patented this piece in many steps -- a process that took literally months. The result is a green patina that copper acquires over the normal passage of time. Saign has sealed the piece in beeswax.
The helm is 10 inches tall by 8 inches across and is approximately .08 inches thick.
The helm comes with a black wooden display stand. A unique and amazing piece of art!
