Description: Bruce Bingenheimer was introduced to the forge by Mastersmith Ed Caffrey in 2006 and became a journeyman smith in 2010. After becoming well known as a forger, he began focusing on folders in 2012. Sadly, Bruce passed away on March 9, 2018. He will be dearly missed. This bowie has been in a single private collection and is in new condition. It has never been carried or used. Given the quality of Bruce's work, it is no surprise that this knife won Best Damascus at the 2013 Montana Knifemaker's Association show.
This knife is simply impressive. The blade was forged to shape from Bruce's own W's pattern damascus. This particular pattern is one of the more difficult to create. The blade meets a coffin-shaped guard and a spacer -- both carved from matching damascus. The damascus combines bold and fine patterns resulting in exquisitely beautiful design. It is one of those patterns that keeps revealing more details upon closer examination.
The handle boasts presentation grade desert ironwood which has a nice mix of dark warm tones. The wood is "proud fit" for an heirloom quality. Six hand domed nickel silver pins hold the scales in place. The frame handle is formed from twist pattern damascus - forged to shape. The handle is extremely attractive as well as functional, with a natural ergonomic flow.
This knife is accompanied by a hand stitched and tooled brown leather sheath.
Gorgeous work throughout!
