Description: Journeyman Smith Bruce Barnett is a Western Australian knifemaker living in the hills of Perth. Bruce is one of the fine Australian makers who is drawing the attention of the knifemaking world to the wealth of knifemaking talent in his country. Bruce's attention to detail and fine design aesthetic is clearly apparent in this elegant and high performing hunting knife.
This hunter features a 5.6 inch carbon steel blade hand forged to shape from 52100 carbon steel. Many makers and collectors feel that 52100 is among the best steels available for knifemaking. When combined with a triple temper and triple quench, as shown in the works of Mastersmith Bill Burke, the results are exceptional. A differential heat treatment line is clearly visible on the blade. This shows the division between the soft, supportive spine, and the ultra-hard edge steel. The result: superior edge holding with exceptional durability.
The handle is formed from birdseye iron bark (Eucalyptus sideroxylon). This red toned wood has beautiful figure and is secured by a central mosaic pin. The nickel silver guard is precision fit to the blade and is followed by a black fiber spacer. This assists the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. Accompanied by a black leather pouch style sheath.
