Description: Journeyman Smith Bruce Barnett makes exceptional hunting knives with perfect balance, and keen, long lasting edges. Bruce is a Western Australian knifemaker living in the hills of Perth. Bruce is one of the fine Australian makers who is drawing the attention of the knifemaking world to the wealth of knifemaking talent in his country. Bruce's attention to detail and fine design aesthetic is clearly apparent in this elegant and high performing hunting knife.
This hunter features a 5-1/2 inch blade, hand forged to shape from 1084 carbon steel. By differentially heat treating the steel, Bruce created a knife with a keen, long lasting edge and a supportive, durable spine. A hand rubbed finish lends an heirloom quality to the knife.
The 416 stainless steel guard is precision fit to the blade and is followed by alternating black fiber and warm toned copper spacers. The handle is formed from stabilized spalted maple burl. The wood has a particularly dramatic and fascinating grain pattern with excellent contrast. It is nicely carved to swell at the palm, moves into a slimmer waist, and finally swell again at the pommel.
This knife is accompanied by an extremely nice, hand tooled pouch style leather sheath. Artist, Jayme Hanjin, tooled a beautiful branch and seed pod into the leather. Excellent work throughout!
