Description: This whimsical folding knife was made by South African knifemaker Herucus Blomerus. A resident of Pretoria, Herucus (pronounced 'eh-roo-koos') has been a proud member of the South African Knifemakers Guild since 2005.
The drop point N690 stainless blade is meticulously hand satin finished in the grinds and mirror polished on the flats. N690 is a super-steel created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds on to it. The increased toughness gives it better resistance to edge chipping. The blade has been hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge.
The blade is easily opened with a simple flick of the wrist or using flipper mechanism. It is well centered and has silky-smooth action due to the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create smooth action with no blade play.
The stabilized poplar handle has a nice mix of medium and light tones for a dramatic, and elegant appearance. The playful bolsters are formed from mosaic damascus forged by fellow South African bladesmith Lourens Prinsloo. Redialed stars surround a dramatic stylized image of the extinct, flightless dodo bird (Raphus cucullatus). Blue anodized titanium liners are hand fileworked.
Herucus is clearly a maker to keep an eye out for - exceptional fit and finish throughout!
