Description: Henry Hildén is an extremely accomplished sole-authorship Swedish knifemaker, forging damascus that rivals that of the greatest makers anywhere. His knives utilize the styles of his homeland Sweden, while maintaining a style unique to himself. After starting to make knives in 1995, Henry quickly and consistently began producing knives excellent in fit and finish, as well as performance. As such his work has drawn international recognition and won many awards throughout Sweden.
The multi-bar composite damascus blade combines explosion pattern damascus with the simple sophistication of linear pattern damascus at the center. By incorporating 20C and 15N20 carbon steels, Henry creates a dramatic high contrast blade with exceptional edge holding. The blade shows tremendous control and skill in the forge. Hildén's maker's mark is set in 18 kt gold atop a textured sterling silver 'habaki'. The obverse side exhibits a subtlety elegant golden sunburst.
The handle showcases a solid piece of carved and textured presentation grade ancient walrus ivory, bordered by stark black buffalo horn and sterling silver spacers. Intricate damascus encompasses the handle - a tight twist pattern on the guard and a complex mosaic damascus on the finial and pommel.
The knife is complemented by a hand tooled rawhide leather sheath fitted with a textured sterling silver collar and damascus droplet center piece. The knife may be displayed on the accompanying stand, which Henry made using ebony and reindeer antler.
Henry Hildén is clearly a bladesmith to watch for, his breathtaking knives will captivate generations to come. Truly exceptional fit and finish throughout!
