Description: This custom Rifleman's Wharncliffe is the very first piece utilizing Don's personally hand forged damascus. The influence of Don's mentor, Tai Goo, is clearly visible in this elegant primitive wharncliffe. Showing the spirit of the Neo-Tribal movement, Don forges closely to shape and uses a draw file for final shaping rather than a grinder. Though this is a time-consuming process, the results are unique and exceptional!
Don chose a mix of 1084 and 15N20 for this creation, with a 120 layer twist. By forging the steel shape, he ensures optimal grain refinement. The bottom half of the blade, along with the swedge, spine and full tang, have been hand polished to reveal the many layers of steel. The top half features a forge finished darkened patina. This contrast offers a fine aesthetic contrast. .
Handle scales are formed from African blackwood, and are carved by hand in a quilted pattern and enhanced with twelve structural bronze pins and 32 decorative bronze pins. Hand carving ensures a secure grip and provides an elegant, heirloom appearance.
