Description: Bob Lay's designs are well thought out and show an amazing degree of craftsmanship.
By mirror polishing the flats of the blade and satin finishing the grinds, Bob creates a knife with grind lines that are very dramatic. 19C27 stainless steel, which is in the same family as 12C27, is tremendously wear-resistant and takes on an incredibly keen, long lasting edge. It was originally developed for cutting cardboard in industrial settings. It is one of those rare steels that has exceptional edge holding and can be easily stropped from sort-of dull to scary sharp. The blade is tempered to 58.5Rc for optimal edge retention and durability.
The handle combines walnut with sheep horn and brass. It is carved to swell gently at the center for an excellent fit in the hand. The brass guard and end cap create a perfect balance and bring out the warmer tones in the walnut and sheep horn. It is rare for Bob to use brass for his fittings and the results are exceptional! Thin black fiber spacers assist the handle to adjust to changes in temperature and humidity.
Accompanied by certificate from the maker, leather sheath, and a cordura storage pouch.
