Description: Lattice matrices and spiderwebs are the theme in this dynamic piece -- starting from the tip of the powerful and complex mosaic damascus blade by renowned Swedish bladesmith Micke Andersson, following through the nickel silver guard and mosaic damascus ferrule by Mattias Styrefors, and culminating with the stark contrast of the African Blackwood handle.
The highly complex blade combines a damascus central core forged from 20C and 15N20 steels. This is sandwiched between layers of 20C carbon steel. This, in turn is surrounded by spiderweb pattern damascus. The blade has tremendous complexity, combining bold and complex patterns so as to be both fascinating from a distance and under close inspection.
The ferrule incorporates Mattias spiderweb pattern damascus forged by Mattias Styrefors. The spiderweb patterns by Mattias and Micke nicely complement each other. Lastly, Jeff completed the knife with a stacked end cap combining nickel silver and spider mosaic damascus.
The sheath is formed from carved African Blackwood, damascus and nickel silver -- reflecting the materials in the knife. Jeff created an ingenious sliding mechanism built into the sheath. When drawing or returning the knife to the sheath, spider mosaic windows transition to and from a nickel silver coffin on one side and a fine silver spiderweb (revealing damascus underneath) on the other. The spiderweb was created by piercing and filing fine silver into the dramatic web.
Nice work throughout on a very creative knife!
