Description: As an avid hunter, Randy knows how a knife should perform. The steel must be hard and maintain a superior edge. The handle should be dramatic and comfortable. This sub-hilt fighter is no exception.
The hollow ground CPM154 stainless steel blade was hardened by renowned heat treater Paul Boss. Hardened to 59-60 Rc, Randy has ensured that the blade will keep its edge through the most difficult tasks. The edge will be easy to resharpen due to the hollow grind.
The handle combines presentation grade desert ironwood with steller sea cow bone and fire amber. Steller's sea cow (Hydrodamalis gigas) is an extinct, large sirenian mammal formerly found near the Asiatic coast of the Bering Sea. It was discovered in the Commander Islands in 1741 by the German naturalist Georg Steller, who was traveling with the explorer Vitus Bering. Through an unfortunate combination of being slow, large, and good tasting, by 1768, less than 30 years after it had been discovered, Steller's sea cow was extinct. Black micarta and red fiber spacers assist the handle to adjust to changes in temperature and humidity. Nickel silver fittings bring the weight back into the handle for an exceptional balance. The sub hilt protects the fingers and provides a sure, comfortable grip.
Accompanied by handmade leather sheath by Sonja Lee. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
