Description: Montana bladesmith James Luman is well known for his creativity and ingenuity. This pipe hawk shows off both well. This pipe hawk was in a private collection since it was made in the summer of 2012. It has been meticulously cared for and is in new condition. By all appearances, Luman could have made it yesterday.
James began by forging the head, creating a damascus that he calls lace pattern. The bold steel immediately grabs attention. The presentation grade curly maple haft is inlaid with fine silver rays and copper pins. A pewter mouthpiece is inlaid directly into the maple haft. The top of the haft is completed with an elk antler cleaning plug.
The curly maple have measures approximately 18-3/4 inches.
Exceptional work throughout!
