Description: Swedish knifemaker Roger Bergh created the knife which many of us now think of as the Swedish Hunter. This exquisite example of his work has been in a single private collection since it was made by Roger back in the 2002. It has never been used to cut and has not been sharpened since Roger made it. By all appearances, Roger could have made it yesterday.
The 9-1/4 inch long blade combines four separate bars of damascus. Three are tight twist patterns. The fourth is a firecracker pattern edge. A long swedge brings lightens the blade. The right ricasso bears Roger's mark, which was double stamped.
Roger's work on his handles has always set him apart -- his ability to find rare and exciting materials continues to draw my attention. The central section of the handle is an Inuit artifact created in the 1800's from ancient walrus ivory. The holes on each side of the handle are from making fire from friction. It came from St. Lawrence Island. Additional handle sections are formed from spalted alder, ancient walrus ivory and mammoth ivory. The handle is lightly carved, evoking wind or waves.
The knife is accompanied by a hand tooled leather sheath by Roger.
