Description: Swedish knifemaker Roger Bergh created the knife which many of us now think of as the Swedish Hunter. This exquisite example of his work has been in a single private collection since it was made by Roger back in 2001. It has never been used to cut and has not been sharpened since Roger made it. By all appearances, Roger could have made it yesterday.
Roger began by forging the dramatic damascus blade. The blade combines 3 separate bars of damascus -- explosion pattern spine and edge surround a twisted mosaic damascus central bar. The pattern is immediately captivating.
Roger's work on his handles has always set him apart -- his ability to find rare and exciting materials continues to draw my attention. Here, he combined presentation grade green toned mammoth ivory with dark toned oak that was recovered from a ship that sunk 300 years ago. Not only is the sunken oak an incredible material, but when combined with the green mammoth, it is extremely dramatic. The base of the handle is inlaid with twisted damascus. The handle is sculpted with both comfort and dramatic appearance in mind.
The knife is accompanied by a traditional Swedish sheath. The lower part of the sheath reflects the handle, and combines green toned mammoth ivory with sunken oak. The upper is hand tooled leather. Exceptional work throughout!
