Description: In 2007, Mastersmith J.R. Cook was designated by the Arkansas Heritage Commission as the Arkansas Living Treasure. He makes less than 12 Arkansas Living Treasure knives each year. This knife was made in 2008 and is the 9th ALT knife that he made. It has been in a private collection and has been meticulously cared for. By all appearances, it could have been made yesterday.
The clip blade was forged to shape from 1084 and 15N20 carbon steels. The left ricasso is marked J.R. Cook MS. The right ricasso is marked ALT 9 2008. A differential heat treatment results in a soft, supportive spine with a keen, long lasting edge. The oval guard, ferrule, and pommel were each formed from iron and are meticulously etched in a thunderstorm pattern. Pre-ban ivory scales are set with four pins. The frame is carved and engraved in a vine pattern.
Exceptional work throughout!
