Darryl Bolke is a retired Senior Police Corporal from a very active department in Southern California. He was a Firearms Instructor and Armorer for their SWAT Team for 17 years. He is very active in edged weapons use and training for law enforcement officers and has trained with some of the finest edged-weapons experts in the world. In the early 90’s he collaborated with Strider Knives in producing the “DB” model as a first of its kind - a small, very thick, fixed blade knife for law enforcement. This knife and style have evolved over the years and currently carries a NSN number and is issued to many military and law enforcement teams. He also wrote a nationally recognized edged weapons program for his agency and collaborated with Emerson Knives in adapting their P-Sark folding knife for law enforcement usage. It became one of the first knives ever issued to every officer within a larger police agency along with specialized training.
The Kiku Knives DB carries over many design features that Darryl Bolke deems a must-have for a knife built to withstand the needs of an armed professional. The reinforced tip has a slightly sharp clip which transitions to a flat-ground swedge. The primary bevel is done in Kiku's signature-style Hamaguri-ba (convex) grind. The jimping on the thumb ramp provides a stable platform to guide the cutting edge. The elongated choil ensures the hand will not slip onto the blade in a variety of grips. The pommel terminates in a slightly rounded point for use as a striking implement. Jimping around the pommel gives the thumb an extra added bit of traction when used in an icepick grip style. The lanyard hole gives the user the option to add an extra bit of security. Whether gripped edge-in or -out, the DB's design makes it an effective tool no matter how it is grasped when a fraction of a second can mean the difference between life and death. In the tough, compact knife category this is one edged tool to rule them all.
Accompanied by a Kydex sheath.
