Description: Journeyman Smith Bruce Barnett is a Western Australian knifemaker living in the hills of Perth. Bruce is one of the fine Australian makers who is drawing the attention of the knifemaking world to the wealth of knifemaking talent in his country. Bruce's attention to detail and fine design aesthetic is clearly apparent in this elegant and high performing bowie knife. This is my favorite of Bruce's knives to date.
This bowie features a hand forged W2 carbon steel blade, measuring in at 10-1/4 inches. A differential clay zone heat treatment line (called a hamon) is clearly evident on the blade. The hamon is particularly dramatic and engaging. This line shows the division between the soft, supportive spine and the ultra-hard edge steel. The result: superior edge holding with exceptional durability.
The damascus guard is precision fit to the carbon steel blade. A complex Ws pattern is elegantly reflected in the satin finished blade. A mokume spacer is forged from copper and brass. The handle is formed from ancient walrus ivory, polished to a gleaming luster. It is sculpted to ensure a comfortable, secure grip.
Exceptional work throughout!
