Description: Doc Shiffer started making knives in 2000 and has had many great makers share their expertise with him. Currently he is on the Board of Directors of the Gulf Coast Knife Makers Association. He joined the Navy in 1987 as a Corpsman and served the majority of his enlistment with the Marines at 2nd Division. Doc has done a deployment to Africa and Operation Desert Storm. After completing his enlistment, he went to paramedic school and has been a paramedic since 1994. He has been a Tactical Medic for 3 different Sheriff Departments, done contracting in Afghanistan and is currently teaching Basic and Advanced Medical Skills as a contractor for the US Army. He is currently with the Reserves and is working with 3rd Force Recon. He recently just came off of activation with them. His background has given him a unique insight and appreciation for what it takes to make a good working knife and has dispelled a lot of ideas he previously thought were important in a knife.
This is a one-of-kind axe by Doc Shiffer that excels at balance, ergonomics, and ferocity. The blade is made from 1095 carbon steel which Doc has given a differential heat-treat. The unique finish on the blade is done with Gun Kote, which is an impact and solvent-resistant finish that is used extensively to break up the silhouette of firearms in the field. The Multicam G10 handle scales are sculpted and contoured for grip retention and comfort. Mosaic pins are found throughout the length of the G10. The ergonomic handle lends itself well to close quarters techniques, fine work with the edge, and material destruction. The flared pommel allows the user to choke as far back as possible for powerful strikes without fear of the axe slipping out of the hand, especially when the axe is used with a lanyard.
