Description: Iris is among Andre Thorburn's master works to date. It features a unique opening system Andre developed called a roll opening. This modification on a flipper opening is tremendously easy to use and does not catch when stored in the pocket. When combined with the IKBS ball bearing system, the action is exceptional! The Ikoma Korth Bearing System (IKBS) was originally designed for balisong knives and uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play. This is among the smoothest knives I have ever felt.
The blade is formed from stain resistant damascus forged by Friedrich Schneider. Schneider is without doubt one of the greatest and most famous knifemakers in Germany and is famous for developing the technique of forging damascus from stainless steels that is most commonly used today. He created this technique in 1981. The high contrast ladder pattern is immediately captivating. By etching the steel in the grinds and mirror polishing the flats, Andre emphasizes his unique, crisp grind lines.
The 416 stainless steel frame is inlaid with two sections of jet black carbon fiber. Central arches of 416 stainless steel have been meticulously hand engraved by Belgium-born artist Julien Marchal. Julien studied engraving and gun making at Léon Mignon Liège in France. A detailed iris is depicted on the surface of the steel. The central stamen is inlaid with 24 kt gold. Titanium liners are meticulously hand fileworked and anodized to a blue tone. The stainless steel backbar is engraved in an organic chevron pattern. Attention to detail has been paid throughout this knife, with the fit and finish exceptional.
