Description: Gil Hibben is renowned for his bowie knives. This exceptional piece has been in a single collection since it was first made by Gil back in 1965. It has been meticulously cared for and by all appearances could have been made yesterday. The knife has never been used to cut and shows absolutely no scuffs or dings. All work is original.
The long, broad blade was forged to shape from 440C stainless steel. The long clip is brought just shy of fully sharpened. The blade was meticulously mirror polished. The left side of the ricasso is marked Hibben Knives / Manti, UT. This mark was used by Gil between 1964 and 1970.
The handle is formed from a solid piece of rosewood. It is carved to swell both at the palm and on each end. Brass fittings surround the handle.
A rare, and exceptional find!
