Description: Gil Hibben is renowned for his bowie knives. This exceptional piece has been in a single collection since it was first made by Gil back in 1987. It has been meticulously cared for and by all appearances could have been made yesterday. The knife has never been used to cut and shows absolutely no scuffs or dings. All work is original.
Gil made 101 of the Rambo III Bowies out of damascus. The damascus was forged by renowned bladesmith Daryl Meier. Daryl is considered by many knife collectors and makers to be the father of modern damascus. Copies of this knife were later made by United Cutlery. The United Cutlery version is among the most collected knives of all times, with over 250,000 sold. Finding one of Gil's originals is extremely rare. This is #45 of 101 that were made.
The long, broad blade was formed from Daryl Meier random pattern damascus. The blade is hollow ground and features a long swedge and central pierced fuller.
A stainless steel guard and pommel surround the Macassar ebony handle. Black fiber spacers assist the knife to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. The front of the guard is marked with the Hibben Knives logo and Louisville, KY. It is notes that this is #045. Gil's signature mark and Charlton Ltd (the supplier of the damascus to Gil) are also noted. Finally, the Rambo II logo is set on the opposing side. The knife is accompanied by a leather sheath.
A rare, and exceptional find!
