Description: Daniel Winkler and Karen Shook work together to create knives that have a timeless beauty that will quickly become family heirlooms. Their name is well known in re-enactment circles throughout the world and movie buffs may recognize their work in films such as Last of the Mohicans. Their knives, which are made using many techniques and materials authentic to earlier times, have an authenticity rarely found in other maker's work.
The flat ground blade has a forge finish on the flats and reveals Daniel's high contrast Damascus in the grinds. The blade is hand fileworked in the thumb position. A forged finger pad is completed with a curled finial. A ferrule is formed from patterned copper and sinew thong. Ancient walrus ivory scales combine cream and caramel tones. The full tang has been distal tapered for excellent balance in the hand.
The knife is accompanied by a rawhide covered sheath by Karen Shook. A vegetable tanned leather pouch is wrapped with hand stitched rawhide. It is completed with woven porcupine quill ornamentation, deer hide fringe and thongs. The sheath is decorated with glass beads, bone hair pipes, tin cones, and horse hair. Accompanied by certificate from the maker.
