Description: Mike Ball is a protégé of Jim Luman, renowned bladesmith and damascus maker. His designs are well thought out and feel excellent in the hand. Considering the level of work, it is no surprise that this knife won Best Damascus at the 2011 Montana Knifemaker's Association show.
The blade has a tremendously complex damascus pattern. Bold ribbons travel across the complex background -- making the blade grab attention from a distance and keep it upon closer examination.
The handle combines spalted maple with ebony. The dark ebony wood nicely brings out spalting lines in the maple. A mosaic pin and brass and copper spacers highlight warm tones in the maple. Matching mosaic damascus fittings surround the nicely elegant wood. Nice work throughout!
