Description: Mastersmith Bill Buxton makes some of the most bold and striking pieces found anywhere. Bill does all his own work, from forging the blades to the last stitch on the sheath. This spike hawk is a great example of his work.
The head of this piece was hand forged from 15N20 and 1080 carbon steels. This creates a beautiful, high-contrast damascus that is lovely when seen from a distance yet equally beautiful up close. The head is shaped with a traditional axe poll on one side and a spike on the reverse.
The haft is formed from presentation grade curly maple, with a series of nickel silver inlaid dots in a swooping curve. The head measures 9 1/2 inches from cutting edge to the end of the spike. The cutting edge is just over 2-1/2 inches long. The haft measures 18 1/4 inches overall and is finished with matching damascus butt and end caps. Exceptional work throughout!
