Description: South African knifemaker, Andre Van Heerden, creates an amazing folder -- and this gent's folder is among his best.
The modified wharncliffe Panzer 36 stainless steel blade is meticulously hand satin finished in the grinds and mirror polished on the flats. Panzer 36 is a martensitic stainless steel with high hardness, high wear resistance and good corrosion resistance. It is cross rolled in production to cancel out residual stresses from the manufacturing process. It has only recently begun being used by knifemakers and has gained significant acclaim by South African makers, where it has quickly found popularity. Mastersmith Kevin Harvey has been involved in the initial testing of Panzer 36 and describes it as having ' excellent edge holding and toughness.' The blade has been hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge. By hand satin finishing the grinds and mirror polishing the flats, Andre accentuates the unique, crisp grind lines. The blade is perfectly centered and has silky smooth action. It is easily opened using inlaid 18kt gold thumb dots.
The handle scales combine very rare blue/green toned mammoth ivory and mosaic damascus. The highly detailed mosaic damascus bolsters were forged by Doug Ponzio and depict tiny images forged into the steel. Blue anodized titanium liners keep the knife strong, yet light. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
