Description: This drop point hunter shows how Aaron Wilburn's work is developing an increasing refinement of design while he continues to create hard-working, field-use knives.
The blade was forged to shape from 52100 carbon steel. Many makers and collectors feel that this is the best steel available anywhere for use as a knife blade. The blade was then differentially heat treated, bringing the edge to critical temperature then oil quenching three times. Many thermal cycles and normalizing steps assure consistent grain structure. The blade was then triple tempered at 400 degrees for exceptional durability. A cryogenic treatment between tempers enhances the edge holding ability. A hand rubbed satin finish shows off the resulting heat treatment line and complements the handle perfectly.
The antler handle is formed from sambar stag. Sambar of this quality has become increasingly difficult to come by. Alternating nickel silver and black fiber spacers assist the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. A serious field knife for the avid hunter or collector. The knife is accompanied by a hand stitched pouch style sheath.
Excellent fit and finish throughout.
