Description: Knives by National Living Treasure Jerry Fisk are quite hard to obtain, considering his substantial wait list. This piece was made in 2007 and has been well cared for in a private collection. It is in new condition.
Jerry has only ever made three axes in this style -- and only one with American walnut handle scales.
The head, which measures almost four inches from edge to hammer, has been differentially heat treated. The resulting axe has a cutting edge with an exceptionally long lasting razor edge and a poll that is hardened to hold up well under heavy impact. The solid, integral metal haft is curved for better grip and to aid in the swinging motion. The fine construction and superlative fit and finish ensure that, whether well-used or kept in a collection, this axe is sure to become a family heirloom.
The front of the bolster has been textured and fits perfectly to the 5160 haft and American walnut scales. The left side of the haft features Jerry's M.S stamp and FISK maker's mark.
The handle is formed from exhibition grade American walnut, a durable, hard, open-grained hardwood prized for its luster and chatoyancy. A distal taper to the tang keeps the balance right. Two stainless steel pins complete the handle. This is the sort of compact, hard-working axe that you would want to pack on those extended back country game hunting trips. It looks good and works as good as it looks!
