Description: The Mongol invasions of Japan of 1274 and 1281 were major military efforts undertaken by Kublai Khan to conquer the Japanese islands after the submission of Korea. Despite their ultimate failure, the invasion attempts set a limit on Mongol expansion, and rank as nation-defining events in Japanese history. The Japanese were successful, in part, because the Mongols lost up to 75% of their troops and supplies both times on the ocean as a result of major storms. This elegant folder tells the story of these invasions as the Japanese Samurai fought off the Mongol foreigners. Inlaid with copper and 24 kt gold, both sides of the folder depict Samurai fighting Mongol warriors. Cherry blossom and bamboo forest backgrounds highlight the battle.
The sway back blade is formed from Jody's own mosaic damascus. Highly detailed ribbons travel though the convoluted steel. The 416 stainless steel frame is meticulously engraved by Jody. The lock has been inlaid in the right frame. The backbar is heat colored and features an offset chevron pattern. The blade is well centered and has smooth action. Exceptional work throughout!
