Description: Tim Galyean is a young maker who lives in Newberg, Oregon. He has been making custom knives since early 2004, tracing his start in the industry back to 2001 when he went to work for Kershaw, fulfilling a lifelong love for knives. Inspired by the designs of his mentor Ken Onion, Tim worked with him to learn the art of custom knife building and ever since has been working on finessing his designs and techniques.
The blade of this Damascus Junkyard Dawg is formed from Mike Norris's hornets' nest pattern stainless damascus. The blade design features a deep hollow grind and a swedge which runs nearly the entire length of the spine, with a clear inspiration from his mentor, Ken Onion, in his choice of the basic blade shape.
The handle is formed from solid titanium and evokes the feel of a WWII fighter pilot's plane. These airplanes were often called "dog fighters" by the brave men who flew them and this knife is an homage to the aesthetic of that era. The act of dog fighting refers to the aerial combat the pilots would engage in. The handle features slick custom images, reminiscent of "nose art" pilots would use to personalize their planes. Both handle scales feature 11 gold-toned bombs and a USA Air Force Roundel. A silver toned "mud flap girl" decorates the left scale and the pocket clip. The pocket clip is set for tip up carry.
The action is silky-smooth -- easily opened using the flipper mechanism. The blade is perfectly centered with no wobble. Exceptional work throughout!
