Description: Another exquisite piece by Tom Sterling! Tom is renowned for his "knapped" steel knives. Some years ago, Tom began forging and has been combining his love of the forged blade with his enjoyment of knapped stone knives. The result is his exceptional "knapped" steel style
This is replica art knife is based on Dorset Knife knapped by Palaeoeskimos when they lived on the Island of Newfoundland between about 2100 and 1300 BC. This small dagger features a blade hand forged from 1080 carbon steel. The steel was then carved and antiqued to resemble knapped stone - the hand forged blade of the dagger is beautifully sculpted!
The stick tang is encased in a hand carved copper handle, and the piece is completed with a loop of artificial sinew set into a groove close to the blade and an antiqued bronze pin. Details such as the variance in the delicate hammered texture he incorporates into the copper and bronze (all done by hand) mean this contemporary art piece evokes a feeling of antiquity.
The handmade rawhide sheath features an antler ring loop, for a hanging display.
