Description: It is no surprise that this piece won Nick "Best New Maker" at the Northwest Knives & Collectables Show in Salem Oregon, January 2002. At the time, Nick was not yet known as we were very proud to have it in our shop. Since then, Nick Wheeler's reputation for fit, finish and exceptional design has grown and his work has become increasingly difficult to come by. This push dagger has been in a single collection and is in new condition. It has never been used to cut and by all appearances could have been made yesterday.
The blade was meticulously ground and has an heirloom quality hand-rubbed satin finish. The dagger grinds are perfectly symmetrical. Both the box elder burl and the 416 stainless steel 'guard' have been carved and sculpted into Art Nouveau style rays -- very appropriate to the heyday of push daggers. The burl is exhibition grade with a tremendous swirling figure and dramatic mix of tan, chocolate, and light brown tones. An exceptional find!
