Description: 2011 marks the 35th anniversary of Bob's knifemaking. Throughout the year, he will be marking his 35 favorite knives of the year with the "Lay 35" mark to celebrate the anniversary. This is one such knife.
Bob Lay's designs are well thought out and show an amazing degree of craftsmanship. The polished brass guard and butt cap create a perfect balance in the hand while the elk antler forms a great grip. The buffalo horn spacer adds dramatic contrast. Black fiber spacers assist the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes.
Bob very rarely makes carbon steel knives -- in fact, I can only recall one other in the last 10 years! This extremely large, dramatic Bowie really shows off his skills. By mirror polishing the flats of the blade and satin finishing the grinds, Bob creates a knife with grind lines that are very dramatic. The blade has been heat treated to 58Rc for optimal edge retention. 5160 ensures a resilient edge. The clip is brought to a fully sharpened edge. Exceptional fit and finish throughout.
Accompanied by certificate from the maker.
