Description: Don Andrade draws much of his design inspiration from his mentor, Tai Goo, and from the traditional cutlery of the old masters of the culinary blades. He uses no templates, preferring to draw his ideas and then form each knife as an individual creation. A true artist, Don's unique perspective shines through in his one-of-a-kind knives.
A knife you can trust when you're out adventuring is a must for any outdoor enthusiast. Don calls this piece "an experimental bowie hybrid". The blade has been forged to shape, using traditional blacksmithing techniques, and finished exclusively with hand tools. The influence from Jim Bowie's famous fighting knife is evident in the sheer size and heft of the blade - heavy enough for splitting kindling but with a keen enough edge for preparing dinner! The 1080 carbon steel used ensures very good blade toughness with superior edge-holding ability.
The handle scales are formed from stabilized chechen burl and set on a full tang. The wood used has a beautiful high-contrast, swirling wood grain and tones ranging from caramel to chocolate. Don has wrapped the handle with a length of pinion rosin-impregnated cotton for a superior grip, with Turk's Head knots providing a nice design detail. The shape of the handle is designed to prevent your hand sliding onto the blade during use. Bronze pins complete the piece. Exceptional work throughout!
