Description: Tendrils rise upwards towards light from an alien moon. Petals open to greet an unknown world. These were among the ideals that knifemaker Jeff Driscoll considered as he developed this exceptional knife. Though his exploration began with studying flowers to understand the shapes and proportions, this was clearly only the starting point since this was to be a flower that evokes a neighboring universe.
The central base is formed from solid brass. It has been carved and textured. A nickel silver stem raises to support the dyed birch 'sheath'. This, in turn moves into three antiqued nickel silver petals.
The knife handle is carved from African blackwood (one of the hardest woods on the Earth) and spreads into 5 tendrils. The handle swells out slightly in a bulb shape to facilitate a comfortable hand hold. The brass guard is carved and inlaid with nickel silver pins.
The complex blade was forged by renowned Swedish Bladesmith Johan Gustafsson. Johan has spent years developing a technique to bring color to Damascus that is not found elsewhere. This blade featured bolds, blues, purples, greens and reds. The central bar is a complex mosaic pattern that is bold enough to draw attention from a distance, but tremendously intricate so as to maintain interest upon closer examination. The edge bar is a firecracker pattern and was forged from 15N20 and 20C carbon steels, assuring a keen, long lasting edge.
Jeff wanted this knife to have as organic a feel as possible -- from handle to sheath. The results are exceptional.
