Description: Michael Rader, who was honored as a Mastersmith in June 2010, has a style all of his own. Renowned bladesmith John Davis is well known for creating damascus that it unique and tremendously dramatic. When the two decided to create a collaborative knife, was no surprise that the results were exceptional.
The complex mosaic damascus blade features convoluted geometric shapes combined in radials. The damascus is both fascinating from a distance and when examined up close. The left side of the blade is marked with Mastersmith Michael Rader's mark. The right side is marked with Journeyman Smith John Davis' mark.
The handle is formed from a maple burl with lighter curly maple accents. Very few knifemakers share Michael exceptional woodworking skills. The woods are meticulously combined in complex arches, the seams invisible to the fingertip. By using stabilized woods, Michael is able to combine the beauty of natural wood with durability. Black fiber spacers alternate with copper assisting the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. The knife has perfect balance and feels light and easy in the hand. Exceptional work throughout.
