Description: A misericordia is a long, narrow knife, used in medieval times to deliver the death stroke (from the Latin) to a seriously wounded knight. The blade is thin enough to strike through the gaps in armor. This weapon was used to dispatch knights who had received mortal wounds, which were not always quickly fatal in the age of bladed combat; it could also be used as a means of killing an active adversary, as during a grappling struggle.
Tom Sterling's modern interpretation of the Misericordia is immediately captivating. It is hand forged, filed, engraved, and carved from 1045 carbon steel. A paper wasp theme travels through the knife.
The four-sided blade has an aggressive, stabbing point. It culminates in a textured integral ferrule. Each of the four sides of the handle have been meticulously carved and engraved. A paper wasp scuttles across the hexagonal honeycomb. The integral steel has been hot blued and antiqued.
The knife is accompanied by a walnut and moss antler display stand. Exceptional work throughout!
