Description: Canadian bladesmith Mark Banfield created this exceptional hand forged hunter.
The blade was forged from carbon steel from a worn out file. The blade has a clay temper line (hamon). This heat treatment technique is found on Japanese swords. By coating the spine of the blade in clay, the spine remains soft, while the cutting edge is extremely hard for a keen, long lasting edge. The resulting gently undulating heat treatment line is called a hamon. A 400 grit hand satin finish lends tremendous refinement. The guard was forged from antique wrought iron recovered from an 1800s era ship anchor. The handle was formed from moose antler and is seated with a textured pin. The knife is accompanied by a left handed sheath because the antler seems more suitable for left handers. This said, the handle is quite comfortable in either hand. Exceptional work throughout!
