Description: Roger shaped the handle on this wonderful piece to fit snugly into the hand. The guard is slightly curved to accommodate the forefinger, and either the small or ring finger fits into the grove at the butt. The artifact oak is a real treasure and is accented well by the green dyed maple burl and the buffalo horn. The lamination pattern on the blade is fascinating: it reminds me of seeing mountains in the distance through a haze. Each layer has a slightly different shade and is clearly visible. In a fascinating re-interpretation of San Mai, Roger has forged Damascus layers which are only revealed during grinding. The effect is spectacular.
