Description: Canadian bladesmith Mark Banfield creates some of the most unique, dramatic and captivating knives that we have ever had on BladeGallery. This one-of-a-kind, hand forged dagger shows off his work at its best.
The dagger ground blade features a perfectly centered ridge. It was heat treated using a traditional Japanese technique whereby the center of the blade is coated in clay, resulting in a soft, supportive ridge with an ultra-hard edge. The resulting gently undulating heat treatment line is called a hamon. It is particularly difficult to create a hamon that travels around a dagger blade. A 600 grit hand satin finish lends tremendous refinement.
The handle is formed from African blackwood. This jet black, incredibly hard wood has been carved and textured. Each side of the knife features a shield displaying a carved dragon. The amount of detail is exceptional. The African blackwood is surrounded by spacers formed from carved and textured nickel silver. Both the pommel and guard are formed from blued mild steel. The guard is one solid piece of carved steel.
The knife is accompanied by a tooled leather sheath with textured and carved nickel silver fittings. The frog/belt loop is removable.
Exceptional work throughout!
