Description: This exceptional knife is among my favorite knives made by Jody to date. From the nightmare ground blade, to the skillfully forged damascus, to the engraved and inlaid bolsters and carved fossil walrus ivory handle, this knife immediately grabs attention.
The blade, which is just shy of 7 inches features a complex nightmare grind. This differential grind has a thicker section at the front of the blade with a thinner cutting edge in front of the ricasso. The spine is inspired by a harpoon tip. The damascus blade was differentially heat treated using a traditional Japanese technique -- the spine was coated with clay prior to quench. This assures a soft, supportive spine, with a keen, long lasting edge. The transition line, called a hamon in Japan undulates up and down throughout the blade.
The handle is formed from fossil walrus ivory. It has been carved to resemble the wrapped handle on a katana. Along the center of the handle, the carved "silk" wrap reveals a ivory textured to resemble same (sting ray). Front and rear bolsters are formed from Jody's mosaic damascus. The left bolster depicts a detailed tiger, slinking through a bamboo forest. The bamboo shafts are inlaid in 24kt gold. The right bolster displays an Asian dragon. The dragon breaths golden fire. The pommel displays a man fighting with a golden staff. Jody's engraving is exceptionally detailed and immediately grabs attention.
Exceptional work throughout.
