Description: Serge Panchenko was born in the Ukraine in 1983 and was always fascinated by knives. In 2005, when he visited his first knife show, he was inspired to try making a knife of his own. Though he makes practical hunters and tactical knives, art knives are his passion. This knife was made in 2010 and has been in a single private collection. It been meticulously cared for and by all appearances Serge could have made it yesterday.
This exceptional Blacksmith's Knife was forged from a Nicholson file. In colonial America, worn out files were often used to create knives since the steel was exceptionally hard and high performing. The blade was hollow ground, edge quenched and deeply etched, bringing out the grain in the steel.
The integral handle moves out from the blade. The file was split and forged into a closed, riveted end. Serge kept the file's tooth on the sides of the handle.
The knife is accompanied by a presentation stand incorporating a piece of driftwood fished out of the Sacramento River with a forged mild steel post.
This whimsical knife show's Panchenko's tremendous creativity and unique sense of design. Exceptional work throughout!
